FAQs

Here's a list of commonly asked questions about StarScenes, along with the answers you might be in search of:

Is it Safe?

Absolutely! We use a water-based paint that is non-toxic, non-radioactive and odourless.

How bright is it? Will it keep me/my child awake?

You can control the brightness of your Star Ceiling by how you charge it. For instance you can:

  • leave your curtains open all day, and by night you'll have a softly glowing starry sky; or
  • leave the bedroom lights on approx 15 minutes before bed for a bright night sky that fades gently until sunrise; or
  • use a UV blacklight to supercharge your Star Ceiling and see all the details of your beautiful cosmos for as long as you can stay awake!

How long before it starts to work?

As soon as you turn out the lights! It takes the human eye up to 15 minutes to fully adjust to the darkness, so you can expect to see more and more stars and detail as your eyes get accustomed to the dark.

AND REMEMBER, you need a very dark room to see your Star Ceiling properly. Just like the real night sky, the darker it is the more stars you'll see.

Who can get a Star Ceiling?

Anyone who owns their home in Brisbane or the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. We can also travel to Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand to paint Star Ceilings. Just email krystal@starscenes.com.au to find out when the next scheduled trip is.

Is there a guarantee?

StarScenes offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with your Star Ceiling, we will do it again.

How do you paint it?

Each Star Ceiling is an original piece of art, painted by hand. First we black out the windows so it's nice and dark. Then, using a ladder, paintbrushes and other tools of the trade, our Star Artist begins to paint every single star, planet, moon and galaxy until she's covered the entire ceiling! It's an arduous task, but totally worth the end result.

Does it come off?

Your Star Ceiling is designed to be a permanent fixture on your ceiling. In saying this, you will be able to scratch off parts and even sand it down and paint over it if you ever wanted to remove it completely (though we've never heard of anyone ever wanting to do that!).

Couldn't I just do it myself with glow paint or star stickers?

Yes, but you won't be able to get a nice, realistic effect. The glow in the dark stickers and paint you can buy in retail stores isn't the same quality as what we use. Remember those glow in the dark stars you had when you were a kid? They only glowed for 15 minutes! The paint we use glows 10 times brighter and lasts 10 times longer than anything you can buy in the shops. And with our artistic ability, you'll get a truly amazing artwork to treasure every night.

How long does it last?

With a good charge, your Star Ceiling will glow all night long. But it depends on what kind of light you use to charge it and for how long. Some factors that can be of influence include: how sunny the day has been, what type of light bulbs you use, and whether the light was pointing to the ceiling or not.

The paint manufacturer guarantees you'll be able to recharge your Star Ceiling night after night for at least 10 years. But from what the research says, it'll probably be more like 20 years. That means you'll get between 3,650 - 7,300 nights of enjoyment under your own personal starry night sky.

Is it really invisible by day?

The paint used is white, so against a white ceiling it isn't very noticeable. The best thing to do is call Krystal on 0466 878 422 for a free in home consultation. Then you'll be able to see exactly what it looks like in real life.

How does it work?

Using a special paint made of rare earth minerals, we hand paint stars and other night sky treats directly onto your ceiling. All you need to do to make it work is expose the Star Ceiling to light, then close your curtains and turn out the light to be amazed by the 3D star field.

Will my ceiling look as good as the ones in the photos?

Every Star Ceiling is unique. Like any piece of art, no two will ever be the same. The ceilings in the photos were fully charged before the pictures were taken. This involves using a 'UV rich' blacklight to 'energise' the ceiling artwork. Without a full charge your Star Ceiling will take on a more gentle ethereal effect, which whilst not as dramatic, is a better way to help encourage a good night’s sleep.

How much does it cost?
